Things couples usually forget...

Leave More Buffer Time Than You Think You Need

One of the biggest causes of wedding-day stress is trying to squeeze too much into the timeline.

Everything usually takes slightly longer than expected — getting dressed, travelling between venues, family photos, greeting guests… even finding missing buttonholes 😂

Adding little pockets of breathing room into your day makes such a huge difference.

Not only does it help things feel calmer, but it also means you’re far more likely to actually enjoy the moments instead of constantly watching the clock.

Eat Something During The Day

This sounds obvious… but so many couples genuinely forget to eat.

Adrenaline kicks in, the morning gets busy and suddenly it’s 5pm and you’ve survived purely on prosecco and half a croissant.

I always tell couples to:

  • have snacks nearby during prep
  • actually schedule time to eat
  • ask someone to bring them canapés during drinks reception

Trust me — you’ll feel SO much better for it later in the evening.

Think About Sunset Timing

Golden hour wedding photos are some of the most beautiful, relaxed moments of the entire day.

It’s often the first time couples get 10 quiet minutes alone together. But sunset timing changes massively throughout the year, especially with UK weddings.

In summer, golden hour can be quite late in the evening, while winter weddings lose light much earlier than people expect.

It’s always worth checking sunset times with your wedding photographer when planning your timeline.

Have A Backup Plan For Rain

As a UK wedding photographer… this one feels especially important!

Honestly though, bad weather rarely ruins a wedding day.

Some of the cosiest, most emotional weddings I’ve photographed have happened entirely indoors while it poured outside.

The key thing is simply having a backup option that still feels relaxed and intentional:

  • indoor ceremony space
  • covered photo locations
  • umbrellas
  • flexible timings

Once couples stop stressing about the weather, they usually enjoy the day so much more.

Schedule 10 Minutes Alone Together

This is honestly one of the biggest things couples tell me afterwards:

“The day went SO fast.”

Having just 10 quiet minutes together during the day can make such a difference.

No guests. No cameras for a minute. No pressure.

Just a moment to actually stop and take it all in together.

Those little pauses often become some of the most emotional memories from the whole day.

Don’t Chase “Perfect”

This is probably the biggest one of all.

The weddings people remember most aren’t usually the ones where every napkin matched perfectly.

They’re the ones that felt full of:

  • laughter
  • warmth
  • personality
  • emotion

The slightly chaotic moments are usually the ones that become the best memories later!
